At 0:50 & again at 4:22 you see a man hammering a section of the locomotive, listening and observing each blow to determine the hidden qualities and strength. These technicians are the bridge between the medieval master artisan and the modern worker. While they are both highly specialized, the modern worker far removed from the basic understanding that brought him to daily operation of his services. A worker putting together a car is exceptionally skilled in the use of his tools and materials, but they too highly specialized and removed from the base metals that they are founded upon.
